Medicare Advantage Plans (like an HMO or PPO) is a way to get your Medicare coverage. When joining a Medicare Advantage plan you still have Medicare. You will get your Medicare Parts A & B through the plan and not through Original Medicare. Most plans also offer prescription drug coverage as well. These plans are called Part C and are offered by private companies that are approved by Medicare.
Medicare Advantage plans mus follow Medicare's rules. Medicare Advantage plans can however, charge different out-of-pocket costs and have rules for how you get services (such as whether you need a referral or not). Rules can change or modify each year and the plan must notify you of these changes before the start of the next enrollment year.
Medicare Advantage plans cover all Medicare services. These plans may also offer extra coverage such as dental, vision, hearing, or health and wellness programs such as a fitness membership. These plans often have low to no deductible for medical or prescription drug coverage as well as low to no premium.
